Orientation Assets for 2 Oct 26 đź”—

I’ve been calling these weekly collections AvanceĂ© Reads since this site’s inception. And while that says what it is, it didn’t quite point to “why” it matters for a venture like AvanceĂ©.

So, I’m changing that name to Orientation Assets.

The change is small, but the distinction matters.

I don’t share these links simply because I found them interesting. More often, something in them has helped me see a changing situation differently: a new technology, an emerging pattern, an unfamiliar way of organizing work, a question that seems worth sitting with.

Sometimes the value is in the information itself.

Sometimes it’s in the connection between two things that don’t ordinarily appear together.

And sometimes an article, image, tool, or idea simply gives me a better bearing on something I haven’t figured out yet.

That’s what I mean by an orientation asset.

It doesn’t necessarily tell us what to think or what to do. It gives us something to think with.

I’m increasingly interested in the difference between having more information and having better orientation. The former is increasingly easy to obtain. The latter still requires attention, context, curiosity, and sometimes a willingness to sit with uncertainty.

So these collections will continue to be eclectic.

That’s intentional.

Each week (well, almost each week), I’ll share a handful of things that have helped me notice something, question an assumption, connect ideas, or see a possibility differently.

Perhaps one of them will do the same for you.

Not answers, necessarily. Assets for finding your bearings.
