Ideating with an eInk Badge & Contextual/Authentication/Federation
Sitting here playing with a new template for an eink “badge” (a tick more than an experiment) and am really getting excited/ancy for something a bit more… self-provisioned
There’s something about a 🪪-sized authentication device which feels… “duh”
There’s something to this… something 🔮
Microsoft is poking there with Project Solara, but I’d want something a bit more under my own control, where the “enterprise connection” is a bit more of a federated experience than a provisioned one.
The badge currently being played with doesn’t have nearly as much tech within it. And it’s more of a “let’s see what can invoke a response” more than anything else. Probably makes a bit of sense to push a bit harder with a more complete eInk badge, but the schematics of doing so isn’t yet totally clear.
What is clear is that there’s a shape of computing which probably isn’t far from the matchbook foldable from the movie Her. And with such a device, there might only need to be a few other ambient computing devices around to be “connected” and “productive.” The matchbook/credit-card being something more personal, more like a key, and probably a bit more “this is how personal a device should have been all along.”
